Terrell Owens and the Buffalo Bills

Terrell Owens and the Buffalo Bills

To discuss the third question in my string of Top Ten Questions for the 2009 NFL season, I have taken some responses from a few friends of mine, one of whom runs a Buffalo Bills fan site. I think you’ll be able to tell whom. The other commentators include a Patriots fan and a lady who just hates Terrible Omens, as I’ve come to call the cancer that now plays receiver for the Bills. This conversation took place on facebook:

Question Three: Now that the Bills have contracted cancer, how will Trent Edwards and the rest of the team fare with Terrell Owens on the roster?

Lance: Facebook needs to change the “Like This” button to a “fucking love this” button for situations like this. As a Patriots fan I couldn’t be happier to see this cancer arrive to play out the string on a team coming off of an ugly collapse. It’s like Christmas in March.

Denis: Can’t be worst than Packers trading Favre after one of his best seasons ever. And, Bills haven’t made the playoffs since 99 so what do they have to lose?

Chikka: Trading Favre was a good move and the outcome of his tenure with the Jets confirms this very well. As for what do the bills have to lose, just sit back and enjoy the carnage. T.O. is happy when he wins. Since you guys don’t have a Brady as a QB he won’t get the ball as much as Moss and the Diva WR attitude will appear. After this starts, he …  Read more becomes soap opera material for the rest of the year. Look at his past, he won’t change now. I can’t wait to see him workout in his driveway in Buffalo during winter! LOL

Denis: This signing reminds me of when Cancer Moss got to NE, and how did that work out? And Moss was a bigger cancer in Oakland than TO ever was in Dallas. Shoot, the guy admitted he wasn’t even playing his hardest.

Lance: Yeah, and Moss went to a championship calibre team with a pro bowl quarterback and offensive line. Owens is 4 years older than Moss and is coming off of a season where, for the third year in a row, he was in the Top 5 in dropped passes. Again, where’s the fucking love it button. At least they were smart enough to only sign the fool for one year.

Denis: Its impossible for someone to think that this is bad for the Bills. After all, they have nothing to lose whatsoever. We’ve been as crappy as 3-13 in the past 10 years with no playoff appearances, so how worst can this honestly get?

Terrell Owens thinking, "Man, this is one nice mirror! I gots to get me one."

Terrell Owens thinking, "Man, this is one nice mirror! I gots to get me one."

Even if he doesnt produce (which I highly doubt), it gives hope to Bills fans that didn’t want to renew their season …  Read more tickets this year. It will bring the national spotlight on us, not to mention the Prime Time games that we don’t deserve but that we will get now that we have Owens – great marketing/PR move regardless of his past. How many TO jerseys do you think they will sell?

As for the 1 year contract… that doesn’t surprise me and I really don’t think it was that tempting for the Bills to sign him to a multi year deal. Bills Mgt. know the risk associated with signing a guy like TO but they also know that TO needs to lead by example if he wants a contract next year, with any team.

No matter how you look at it, this is a good thing for the Bills.

Me: Spoken like a person who has yet to feel the pain of having Terrible Omens on your favorite team. I so wish Dallas had kept this bastard because I can’t stand them. They have a much better chance of being a good team now.

This just went back and forth, and then someone posted this interview with Owens by two Buffalo DJs. Of course, everyone but Denis thought TO sounded arrogant, selfish and trying, poorly, not to show his disappointment in the fact that he is in Buffalo – such a small town.

Truth be known, though, I must say that Ralph Wilson probably made a smart, short-term move for his team, specially in the light of these economic times. One year, without the drama of a longer contract to deal with at the end of that year, can’t do too much harm, can it?? We’ll ask Trent Edwards at the end of this season…

    Hey dude!

    Thanks for the reference!

I can’t wait for this season. Owens is just the boost of star power the BIlls have been lacking in order to be competitive.

But like you said, we’ll see what Trent has to say at the end of the year…

    Go Bills!!
