There were few surprises in 2008 NFL Week One morning games as big as the one in Atlanta, where the Falcons - in complete rebuilding mode - played a great game in beating the visiting Detroit Lions. The Yardstick for the game had the Lions favored to win by a touchdown and the FanYard community picked the Lions to win 86% of the time. It was not to be, however, as the final score read: Lions 21 Falcons 34.
Rookie signal caller Matt Ryan - who I truly enjoyed watching play ay Boston College last season - had an amazing start to his NFL career, throwing to Michael Jenkins for a 62-yard touchdown with his very first pass attempt as a pro.
What about the running game? Not bad. Not bad. Only 22 carries for LaDainian Tomlinson’s former backup in San Diego, Michael Turner, for 222 freaking yards, and two touchdowns to boot! Oh, and his backup, Jerious Norwood, did those who took him in fantasy football pretty good, too.
When they play teams with a defense as absolutely horrible as that which the Detroit Lions put on the field, the Atlanta Falcons will be a team to contend with in 2008.
In Week Two NFL action, we’ll see the Falcons at the Buccaneers and the Packers at Lions.

The Atlanta game, may have renewed my love for the Falcons again. This is great for the fans of Atlanta especially since we lost Vick and others, and Atlanta needs a team since the Braves haven’t been doing well. I still have Vick’s autograph hoping he gets to play when he leaves Leavenworth Penitentiary.
