With preseason starting just a week from now, there’s no better time to start ramping up your picking skills and see what you can make of these nonsense games. Hey! Who can argue with NFL games in any form at this time of year, when we’ve all been jonesing since that most crazy Super Bowl wa-ay back in February? Not me.
As a fan of the game with a penchant for the San Francisco 49ers, I know there’s at least a couple games this year that I will actually watch before the regular season starts. As our friend Lee at Football Jabber pointed out recently in his piece about QB camp battles, the quarterback position in the Bay Area is excitingly up for grabs. If Alex Smith loses his starting job to Shaun Hill, he’ll become the most recent poster boy for the argument that NFL rookies need a salary cap, and fast.
In the meanwhile, we await the decisions that will be made regarding Brett Favre’s career and whether or not it is over. Jon Pyle had a funny quarterback comeback piece in relation to this (n)ever-breaking and seemingly never-ending story.
Get your couches cleaned, fans. Stock the shelves. Football season is almost upon us.
