The Viking Wins Arena Football!!

Last Sunday, July 27th, the Arena Bowl was played between the San Jose SaberCats and the Philadelphia Soul. At FanYard, the Yardstick called for a 6-point Soul victory and we were rewarded with another win when the Philly team took the Championship with a four-point win.

With his pick of Philly to win by six, The Viking cemented his place at the top of the 2008 AFL Leaderboard for the season, with a total of 2950 points, 120 more than his closest rival this season, Ralph Grunz. Although he actually picked fewer games, The Viking’s overall wins were closer to the actual outcomes and gave him more overall points for his 63% winning picks rate.

A huge congratulations to The Viking for his prowess at picking games even in the adversity that is Canadian television and the lack of choices or possibilities to be had in the Great White (but turning green quickly thanks to global warming) North when it comes to viewing any AFL games.

Two Friday AFL Games to Note

With Week Two of the 2008 Arena Football League starting this evening, take a look at the Jabberhead’s Arena Football Power Rankings before making your decision on who to pick for each game. You’ll also find their Arena Footballderdash to be a source of valuable insight, as they break down each game in much more detail that what you are going to find just about anywhere else.

The first game tonight pits the Georgia Force against the Tampa Bay Storm. Our good friend Adama Anderson, in the U.S. Air Force in Germany, is sticking to his hometown Force to win by nine on the road this week. The Yardstick for Georgia at Tampa Bay calls for him to be picking up some points on the AFL Top 10 Leaderboard.

The other game pits the powerhouse Dallas Desperados as they welcome the Columbus Destroyers to the Lone Star State. The Yardstick for the Destroyers at Desperados favors the home team by ten points tonight.

Not So Upset

In a game that the Arena Football League prognosticators were having a hard time picking a winner, the Cleveland Gladiators garnered a 61-49 win over the visiting New York Dragons to get to 1-0 on the season. At the time of this writing, another close game to call just finished between the San Jose SaberCats and the home Chicago Rush, with the Rush winning big, 70-47. The Yardstick had called for the Rush to win a closer game, and for the Dragons to squeak out a close win.
