Storm Brewing?

Today was a good day for Fanyard, althought it presented itself early as being a slow one. We has sign ups from around the U.S. and even, yes, Canada - land of the snow, and beer that actually affects you.

We got a write up in Mashable.com today. Very exciting for us, being social network fans, as they are the premier news source about such entities. Ahhh, a month ago, it was but a dream; a thought; a vision. All right, wipe ‘em.

We also introduced ourselves to a few blogs and papers - one Colorado Springs paper in particular - that covers a lot of ground, networking-wise. I only just realized the West-Coasted-ness of the blogs I hit today: Colorado, UCLA, Stanford and USC. That was not meant to be, and I shall fix it tomorrow - the descrepancy.

What else? Ummm, there were a few more major NFL and/or NCAAF news sites contacted, as well as more smaller ones. Mmmmm…Japanese beer and its affection. Or taste.

Oh, yes…never mind. We’ll talk tomorrow.

There are a ton of games coming up. That’s right. And, apparently, approximately 78.4% of blogs (supposedly) dedicated to their respective teams are, for the most part, dead. It is particularly annoying when this google thing does not recognize them as such.

Is that not what google is for, after all - the sorting and stuff? Otherwise, who the hell am I paying for this…Wait, I take it back. Leave me my google. It’s like search engine porn. So eeaaasssy.

I now understand the power of the google. It is like the power - or so I see it - of CNN or FoxNews. That is, the power of having to say nothing, but with which to spray the ideal which you decide to show as reality. And, when I say nothing, I mean nothing with two sides, at least. If you are a…never mind. You get it. OK, pay me.

Anyhoo, we hit an Appalachian State Alumni newspaper, a Spokane, WA, paper called the Spokesman Review, two Wisconsin Badgers sites and one Michigan sports online paper that covers six Michigan football schools. Bring it on!

Fanyard is groooowing. And you are all coming along for the ride.

Excel-lent!

Interesting. Apparently, there is an issue with approving comments through WordPress right now, but it should be fixed soon, or so I read in a forum. It said to email support about the issue. Support is closed. This sounds like trying to get information about my cable bill.

I am now the proud owner of an Excel sheet with every NFL and NCAA Div I-A, Div-AA, Div II and Div III football teams/schools/location and a bunch of other info. This makes me very happy as I have been going back and forth between sites and computers and offices and apartments for weeks tracking down this and that. Now it is mine, but I will share.

We hit a couple more blogs today, one Mississippi State Bulldogs blog and one LSU Tigers blog. That game is Thursday at 8 EST, and it should be a very good start to the college season! Hopefully, they tell their readers to check out Fanyard and make some picks and comments on the game!

At one pint today, we were averaging a new sign up every ten minutes! Good stuff for day Four(?). I lose track these days.

media tappin’

Yesterday, we added a top ten from the Leaderboard to the home page to fill in some space. Looks pretty good, I think. We contacted a few blogs over the past 24 hours, and will continue down that route for a while. God knows there are enough of them, although many seem to be mostly forgotten even though Kickoff is so near for both NFL and NCAA. We are giving Facebook Flyers a go; to see if/how they work.

Sign ups are coming into Fanyard from Hawaii all the way to Texas. Cool.

Smooth Early Sailing

Sorry Fanyard legions. Dinner last night turned into drinks with friends and then I locked myself out of my apartment last night, so this post comes a little late.

We are getting sign ups and data and all seems to be working well thus far! Nothing has crashed and more and more little pieces are fitting together.

I was right about UFC on Saturday, too. Couture is a Spartan. GSP is a Canadian!

Today, Michael Vick will plead guilty, thus ending the career of the most over-hyped quarterback of the past.

Speaking of over-hyped, Alberto Gonzales, friend of Bush, has resigned from his position as Attorney General of America. Seems Americans decided to claim habeas corpus and no reason was found to keep this man in charge of a justice system he very clearly fails to comprehend.

Beta Boom, Beta Bing

Who knew a site would be so much like a living, organic…thing; made up of so many seemingly invisible little…things? Many of these smaller issues were covered yesterday by our crack development team, and we have officially launched into a Beta version. All this means is that we are alive and running with core functionality, but will be working over the next while to add features and applications to Fanyard for our users to enjoy. We have a few games with which to continue testing today.

I’ll be watching to see if GSP can whip Koscheck’s butt and if Randy Couture can keep his heavyweight title at UFC 74: Respect, tonight at 10 EST at Jeff & Sheila’s.

Getting Off The Ground (But Not Too Far)

We narrowly avoided potential overload during testing yesterday when a friend told a friend who told a friend that Fanyard was live. After a few moments of panic that there would be too many users during this unstable period, we managed to reach the knowledgeable parties and stopped any sort of uncontrolled influx of data. Then, we had to figure out why we were getting NFL teams showing up in the NCAA schedules and reconfigure the dates and times of the games in the schedule. Then, the latest deploy and now…more QA.

In unrelated news, it appears that Asante Samuel might actually show up for the last bit of training camp in New England and accept the almost $8 million dineros and a one-year franchise player tag. Considering he made the league minimum base salaries his first three years, it’ll be a hefty raise.

Let’s Test This Thing

OK, it is getting late. Almost 3:30 and I am actually getting tired. Must mean feeling old, too. Who would know? Anyway, I found quite a few things that need doing, some before launch, some after, and I have tasked them all with what I felt at the time were the proper assignments. Now, Maize is looking at me and meowing, so I think I’ll take a nap. Here’s Maize (if I can get the photo thingie to work). Well…OK.
